PADI Certified Rescue DiverThere are several good reasons for wanting to become a PADI Rescue Diver. Rescue training expands your knowledge of diving, increases your level of diving skill, and makes you more aware of what is happening around you in the diving environment. Rescue Diver certification is also an important prerequisite for the PADI Dive Master rating, and the distinguished PADI Master Scuba Diver certification. Most importantly, rescue training can help you save lives and increase diving safely by preparing you to respond properly to diving emergencies and near emergencies. PREREQUISITESTo qualify for participation in the course, a person must be at least 15 years old, and certified as a Advanced Open Water Diver. An individual not certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver may take the course if they can prove equivalent competency. Equivalency in this case would be defined as proof of certification beyond an entry level scuba course, with a minimum of 20 logged dives documenting experience in the areas of night, deep, natural navigation, compass navigation, and search and recovery diving. Proficiency in fundamental diving skills is also required. A skill review session is included, to sharpen diving skills in preparation for learning rescue techniques. Rescue Diver trainees are expected to provide the equipment specified by Great Lakes Dive locker instructors. This should include an : exposure suit appropriate for the local environment, a regulator with a full assortment of gauges, an alternate air source, and an adequate BCD with a low-pressure inflator. |
