Open Water Scuba Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills you will need to safely visit the underwater world. You will have fun as the instructors at Great Lake Dive locker prepare you for the excitement of entry-level diving activities. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded either the PADI Open Water Diver certification card (minimum age is 15 years) or the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification card (minimum age 10 years). Either credential attest to your completion of training and your ability to meet the standard requirements established by PADI. Professional dive store personal, boat operators, and other professionals in diving will ask to see your certification card before they will allow you to rent or buy scuba equipment, obtain air for your scuba tank or participate in diving activities.

Join the growing ranks of certified divers, the fun and easy way. We use the most respected and number one educational system in the world; the PADI system. In just two easy steps, you will earn a PADI Open Water Certification, recognized throughout the world.

Step One:

Join us for an enjoyable, non-strenuous beginning to your diving education. Step One is comprised of a combination of classroom and pool exercises designed to introduce and reinforce the required skills and theories of scuba diving. A highly qualified and skilled PADI instructor leads Step One. Prior to joining us for the first step, you will need to purchase a student packet, including text book and other training materials. To facilitate the enjoyable and stress free classroom session, it is important that you receive the packet early enough to allow adequate study time prior to class.

The classroom is used to review and elaborate upon what you have already studied at home, using a variety of audio-visual programs to enlighten the many aspects of diving. Our class format is designed for your participation. In the pool, we practice the skills and techniques you will need as a diver. Your first breaths under water are an experience you will never forget! You will be amazed at how easy it can be. We offer different classroom formats for your convenience:

  • one week of evenings
  • one weekend
  • two days a week for two weeks
  • one day a week for six weeks
  • or privately tailored to your schedule.

Additional information on class choices.

Step Two:

Join us again for Step Two, which consists of four open water dives over two days, offered in three convenient formats:

  • a single two day weekend
  • two week nights
  • or tailored to your individual needs

Additional information on class choices

Your training dives are enjoyable sessions applying the skills you learned in the pool and are designed to increase your comfort and confidence. Just as in Step One, a professional PADI instructor closely supervises your training. You may complete Step Two locally or as part of one of our dive travel packages. Completion of Step Two earns you the PADI Open Water Diver Certification. To join a class, stop in or send us your $50 deposit today!
